BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Buffalo Fire officials believe that fireworks were the cause of a house fire overnight in South Buffalo that caused more than $200,000 in damage.

The two-alarm fire happened around 4 a.m. at 33 Hillside Avenue.

“It looks like it started in the second-floor attic area,” Buffalo Fire Commissioner Bill Renaldo said. “At one point, there was a partial roof collapse and an emergency evacuation ordered. From there, it was fought from a defensive standpoint.”

A second home was damaged during the blaze. Renaldo said it was about $30,000 worth of damage.

Neighbors told fire officials that people were firing roman candles at one another.

“The fireworks, from what we understand, were all from the outside,” Renaldo said.

There was video of the incident that authorities are investigating.

No one was injured and there is no reports of any arrests.
