Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Catholic Diocese has placed a priest accused of sexual harassment by a former seminarian on administrative leave.

Last week, Matthew Bojanowski quit studies at Christ the King Seminary over claims the diocese took no action against Father Jeffrey Nowak. Earlier this month, Bishop Richard Malone issued a statement saying there was no coverup in response to allegations of abuse by Nowak.

Wednesday, the diocese announced Fr. Jeffrey Nowak was removed from ministry so an initial inquiry could look into previously received complaints. Following the completion of an initial inquiry regarding those complaints, Bishop Richard J. Malone has placed Fr. Nowak on administrative leave, effective immediately, as an investigation continues.

The diocese says this administrative leave is for the purpose of investigation and does not imply any determination as to the truth or falsity of the complaints.
