Fatal Hit and Run in Cheektowaga

Accident Closed Down Genesee Near Airport Much of Tuesday Morning



Cheektowaga, NY (WBEN) - Cheektowaga police are continuing to investigate a fatal hit and run incident that occurred early Tuesday morning in front of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. 

Police say a man was killed in the incident just before 5:00am. The incident shut down a large stretch of Genesee Street and closed certain access points to the airport for much of the morning. All roads around the airport are now reopened.

Area businesses with surveillance cameras may be able to assist in the investigation.

"We're actively looking for video of the accident," said Cheektowaga Police Chief Scott Pilot. 

Pilot said that all witnesses are being asked to reach out to the Cheektowaga Police Lieutenant Bersez with information at 686-3501. The vehicle may have front end damage.

The victim has been identified as 55 year old Robert Prigl, who divided his time between Depew and Ft. Myers, Florida.
