Eyes on the sky Saturday, weather improves through weekend

Drier weather for 2nd half of holiday weekend

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The National Weather Service in Buffalo says a pair of frontal systems will move across the region through Saturday night, which will produce a couple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be strong with gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain.

High pressure will then move southward from Canada and into the Great Lakes providing mainly dry weather for Sunday and Monday.

Skies will begin to clear from north to south through Sunday afternoon and evening as drier air is pushed across our region.

The weather will deteriorate as the shortened work week approaches and temperatures are expected to be above normal.

Today

A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 8 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A slight chance of showers after 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Partly cloudy, with a low around 52. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
