BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Groundbreaking for the Explore & More Children's Museum at Canalside begins on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

The event will take place near the intersection of Marine Drive and Lloyd at Canalside.

"We're going to have some special guests there to speak," Jennifer Fee, Public Relations with Explore & More, told WBEN. "We're going to be joined by some kids from Waterfront Elementary too which are good friends of ours. We've done a lot of programs there and they've come to visit us at the museum."

Construction for the museum is expected to take several months with an anticipated opening in late-2018. The museum itself will feature seven educational play zones which tell the stories of Buffalo through hands-on exhibits and experiences.

The museum is expected to draw over 250,000 visitors annually.

"Canalside is, first and foremost, in walking distance for a lot of people to come visit the museum who otherwise wouldn't visit us," Fee said. "It's also right on the metro line which is important. People who use public transportation will have access to the museum. Then, of course, it's at one of everybody's favorite destinations in Buffalo: Canalside."

The groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public.
