Excessive Heat Watch for Niagara, Orleans Counties

Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) An excessive heat watch is up for Niagara and Orleans Counties Friday and Saturday.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON... The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, which is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

* LOCATIONS...Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Livingston, and Ontario counties.

* TIMING...From noon Friday through early Saturday evening.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...As high as 110.

* IMPACTS...Heat illnesses likely for those spending prolonged periods outdoors or in non-air conditioned locations. Prolonged heat is most dangerous for young children and the elderly. Car temperatures can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.

In Niagara Falls, pools will be open extended hours and cooling centers will be available.

The following city pools will hold extended hours on Thursday and Friday from 11 am until 6 pm for those in need:
● Center Court
● D’Amelio Park
● 91st Street
● Hyde Park Splash Pad

The city will also hold pool hours at the following locations Saturday:
● Center Court (11 am - 2:30 pm)
● 91st Street (2:30 pm - 4:30 pm)

In addition, the John Duke Senior Center will hold extended cooling center hours from 8 am until 6 pm on Thursday and Friday.
