Two goals for Sabres captain Jack Eichel both extended his point streak to 14 games, and sparked Buffalo in a 5-2 victory Tuesday night over the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues.

Eichel's point streak has been atop the NHL's headlines. The streak includes now seven multi-point nights thanks to his performance at Key Bank Center against the Blues.

Not only has the 25 points in 14 games been one of the best runs a Sabres forward has ever had, but the streak has been huge in keeping Buffalo ahead in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.

The points have come in crucial moments of the game. That remained the case Tuesday as Eichel's first goal would become the game-winner, breaking a 2-2 tie in the 3rd period.

A back and forth 1st period ended tied up at one a piece. Just 18 seconds into the game, Sabres forward Sam Reinhart found the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season, tapping in a pass through traffic from rookie F Victor Olofsson.

Olofsson has increased his production in the assist department lately. His two assists Tuesday makes it six total in the last five games.

In those five games, the rookie has eight points with four multi-point performances.

St. Louis F Troy Brouwer would even up the game three minutes in, and that would be the last of the scoring after one.

After 19:51 of scoreless play in the 2nd period, the Sabres would regain the lead with just :9 seconds left.

F Johan Larsson finished off a chance from defenseman Zach Bogosian, who's blue line shot redirected off the far right boards behind the net, right in front of the left post where Larsson was sitting with a wide open net.

Blues F Alex Pietrangelo would start the scoring in the 3rd period, tying the game at two. After that, it was all Sabres in the scoring department.

Eichel's game-winner, and final minute goals from F Zemgus Girgensons and Eichel would put the game out of reach.

The win keeps the Sabres hot as of late. Buffalo has won two straight, and have managed to get at least a point in seven of the last eight games

Up next, the Nashville Predators come to town for a Thursday night matchup at Key Bank Center. Puck drop is set for 7 PM.
