Amherst, NY (WBEN) The Erie County Water Authority says it has recently become aware of occurrences involving individuals posing as ECWA water meter workers in the Town of Amherst. They're urging you to learn how to properly identify ECWA employees before granting access to their home or business.

The authority says ALL ECWA meter service workers travel in blue and white vehicles with an ECWA decal on both sides, wear a blue uniform with an ECWA emblem and carry a photo identification badge.

ECWA officials urge all customers to confirm these three visible forms of identification from anyone claiming they are at the premises to read or perform work on the water meter.

If not shown proper identification, the ECWA recommends you shut your doors and dial 911 or 849-8484.
