Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Early voting was all new for Erie County and New York State and now that the first early voting effort is on the books, tens of thousands turned out to the polls before Election Day.

Erie County Board of Elections Commissioners Ralph M. Mohr and Jeremy J. Zellner announced Sunday that 3,469 ballots were cast on the ninth and final day of early voting for 2019 in Erie County, bringin the early voting total to 26,514 or 4.5 percent of the county’s 596,230 registered voters.

The New York State Board of Elections says more than 256,000 people cast their ballots before Election Day statewide.

Data suggest unofficial turnout was roughly 1% in New York City and 2% outside the city.

Early voting began at noon last Saturday, Oct. 26, with 37 polling sites serving every city and town in Erie County.

General Election Day is this Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls will be open 6 am to 9 pm, and voters will check in at their usual polling places based on their addresses.

As always, NewsRadio 930 WBEN will be THE place for immediate election results on air and online when the polls close Tuesday at 9pm.

As voters get ready to cast their ballots Tuesday across the region, one local lawmaker is raising concerns about keeping the voting process secure.
