Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Buffalo woman has been arraigned in connection with a deadly crash in Cheektowaga. Prosecutors say they were running from a loss prevention officer at a store.

DA John Flynn says 23 year old Aleia Easley is charged with manslaughter, petit larceny, reckless driving, and a number of vehicle and traffic infractions. Flynn says Easley and another woman, Jacquelyn McClain, were shoplifting from a Save A Lot store on Rossler Avenue in Cheektowaga April 23rd when they were confronted by a loss prevention officer. Flynn says the two ran from the store and jumped into a vehicle.

Flynn says Easley, who was the driver of the vehicle, damaged the passenger side door while backing out of a parking space then sped out of the parking lot. The defendant is accused of driving at a high-rate of speed through a red light when she crashed the vehicle into another car at the intersection of Rossler Avenue and Dingins Street.

Easley suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. Her passenger, 21-year-old Jacquelyn McClain of Buffalo, was ejected from the vehicle and died from her injuries.

Easley is scheduled to return on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. before Cheektowaga Town Court Justice Paul S. Piotrowski for a felony hearing. She was released on her own recognizance.

If convicted on the charge, Easley faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
