BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Governor Andrew Cuomo said his comments earlier this week about America not being great were "inartful" and that he believes the country "has always been great".

In a conference call with reporters, the governor said that his family is evidence of American greatness.

Cuomo was blasted by his opponents for his Wednesday comments at a bill signing ceremony. President Trump on Twitter said that when a politician says "we're not going to make America great again" there doesn't seem to be much reason to ever vote for him. The president added that the statement made by Cuomo could be career threatening.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul agrees with the gCuomo saying though the country is great and they are trying to improve it.

"We get up every single day and find ways to make it even greater," Hochul said. "Here in the New York State we are going to continue pushing to make sure all people are part of a recovery for some that feel like they have been left behind."

Hochul says they look to make the country great for everyone.

"The fact there is still many in poverty, so many need good education and we are making changes to make it better in places like Buffalo and Upstate Communities," Hochul said. "Shame on any politician to say we're done."

And that while America might be great it can be even better.

"There is still always more to do, but yes we are blessed to live in a great country right now," Hochul said.

In response to the tweets from The President, she calls them nothing new and says the Governor is is up for the fight Trump brings.
