Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Governor Andrew Cuomo harshly criticized the Trump administration yesterday at a press conference for the U.S. Climate Alliance, an independent group of states pushing forward with the Paris Climate Accord.

"In my opinion, this federal government is the most ignorant federal government we've ever had on the environment and climate change," Cuomo said.

Cuomo had more to dish out, saying the Trump administration is in a state of denial.

"To me it's an irrational refusal to recognize the issue," Cuomo said, "and to me the federal government exists in their own state, I call it the 'State of Denial'. They've created their own 51st state."

Governor Cuomo had former Secretary of State John Kerry at table with him, the man who signed the Paris Climate Accord on behalf of the country last year.

The press conference was meant for Cuomo to announce North Carolina had joined as the 15th state in the Climate Alliance he leads.  They were also there to reaffirm Climate Alliance's commitment to the Paris Climate Accord.

However, it seems the governor could not resist the moment and went on, postulating on why the Trump administration has taken the position it has on environment, as Cuomo defines that position, at least.

"There's a practical reason," he said, "if you deny a problem, then there's nothing to solve, and if there's nothing to solve, then no one is inconvenienced."
