Manhattan, NY (WBEN) - Governor Andrew Cuomo had a very unfavorable reaction to President Trump's proposed tax cuts yesterday.

Governor Cuomo isn't talking about the doubling of the standard deduction, or the increase in the child tax credit, or even the reduction in the number of brackets.

At least he didn't mention any of those in comments released yesterday.

His main complaint is the repeal of the perk that allows for a deduction on your federal tax return for state and local property taxes.

Cuomo believes repealing the deduction would be illegal and he would challenge it as double taxation...

"I pay taxes to my state and local government, you then want to tax me on the taxes that I paid the state and local government" Cuomo said, "and it is a pure tax increase."

"This from the patron saints of lower taxes, cure the common cold."

That deduction is most heavily used in high-tax states along either coast, like California, New Jersey, and, you guessed it, New York.

In fact, Manhattan is tops in the nation when it comes to using that deduction, Manhattan residents write off an average of nearly $25,000 a year.

The Governor will be in Cheektowaga this afternoon.
