BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Voters will not decide who is the next County Executive until November 2019. But current County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw says he is giving serious consideration about running against incumbent Mark Poloncarz.

"I love Buffalo, I grew up here and I want to see Erie County led in the right direction," County Comptroller Mychajliw said. "Not have someone at the top that is an out of touch liberal exteremist that doesn't really share the same values as we do in Erie County."

Poloncarz says he is not making a official announcement. But has all the intentions of running for a third term.

"We've worked on a lot of key issues in this community," County Executive Poloncarz said. "We've addressed the opioid epidemic, we handled storms, we kept the Bills in town by negotiating a strong lease. If the comptroller wants to run so be it, I'm going to run on a positive record of achievements."

Poloncarz says he thinks it is a bit early to be discussing an election that will not take place until next year. He says his focus is on the elections that take place this year.

Mychajliw agrees but with the increased funding of $100,000 in the last three months his campaign has received as well as many businesses owners he says are telling him they want Erie County to be run in a different direction. Mychajliw says he is now going to talk with his family about this decision.

"If I I do decide to run I want to be from a position of strength," County Comptroller Mychajliw said.
