Collins Discusses Next Step After Defeating McMurray

"I've always said that I'm innocent, they're meritless charges."

BUFFALO (WBEN) - Chris Collins didn't seem too concerned about how he'll represent the residents of New York 27 despite being under indictment.

"As far as I'm concerned, everything's fine," said the incumbent and now re-elected congressman.

It's no secret that Collins has been elusive and well-hidden in the months leading up to the midterm elections. He says the media was not part of his strategy to win this election because he's been treated unfairly.

"The media has certainly not been kind to me," said Collins. "The bias within the media started with the fake Buffalo News and others, including Channel 2."

But he also said that since the election is over, he will now be more public.

"We had a strategy that did not include the media," he said. "But going forward now, as the representative for New York 27, you will have my schedule, and you can come and talk to me any time, anywhere, not a problem."

In a WBEN interview Wednesday morning, Collins told WBEN's Susan Rose, "I've always been accessible as you know. Anytime you want me on WBEN, I'll be there".   Rose pointed out that he was asked to come on election day, but the station never heard anything back from his team.  "I wasn't aware of that, but if you want me anyday, just let me know," said Collins.

Now that he doesn't have to worry about his charges until 2020, Collins says he can focus on the residents of his district and furthering President Trump's agenda.

"I clearly expect to be exonerated, that comes in 2020, which is a very long ways away," he said. "I've always said that I'm innocent, they're meritless charges. I will have my day in court..."

He then broke down the specifics of the Trump agenda that he supports.

"I am re-elected, that's all that matters, and I will represent everyone in the district - Democrats, Republicans, Independents - with the best constituent service of any member of Congress, that we are known for," said Collins. "I will continue to support our President to continue to push forward the economic agenda, the defense, the borders - I'm just going to continue to do my job."

He also discussed some of the items on his personal agenda.

"I absolutely am going to fulfill my term, and again, when it comes to constituent service, we're known as the best. My work ethic, my voting record is why I was re-elected," said Collins. "That will continue whether we're supporting the veterans, the elderly, the disabled, which has always been a focus of my constituent service and my voting record."
