Cheektowaga Man Charged with Hit and Run

Cheektowaga, NY (WBEN) Prosecutors say a Cheektowaga man struck a bicyclist, then sped off. It happened overnight in Cheektowaga.

Paul Hintermeier, 36, of Cheektowaga, was arraigned this morning before Cheektowaga Town Judge Dennis Gorski to charges including Vehicular Assault in the 2nd Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Serious Physical Injury, and various related charges.

Prosecutors say Hintermeier hit the victim, who was on a bicycle, at a high rate of speed after speeding through a stop sign and fleeing the scene at Shanley St. and Richard Dr. in the Town of Cheektowaga. The victim, 18 year-old Damian Garra of Cheektowaga, is listed in critical condition at ECMC.

Bail was set at $100,000 cash or $250,000 bond.  The matter is scheduled to return to Cheektowaga Town Court on August 16th at 8:30 am.
