BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Charlie's Boat Yard, a popular restaurant for area boaters, will finish its expansion at the end of the week

"We've changed the whole schematics of the building," Owner Chuck Goodspeed told WBEN. "We added a second floor to it. We'll have a full service operating kitchen, dining room, and bar upstairs now so we can accommodate businesses and lunches. We can accommodate our overflow of dinners on Wednesday through Saturday. We'll also open up on Sunday afternoon's for brunch only."

The old restaurant was one floor and had a capacity of 168, which prompted Goodspeed to expand the restaurant because there were too many people at the restaurant they didn't want to turn away. The new restaurant can fit more than 250 people. Expansion of the restaurant also includes raised ceilings to 13 feet, better air circulation, exposed mechanics.

"A lot of people ask us for smaller parties of 20-40 people and we can't tie up the rest of our restaurant for that on the weekends," he said. "That gave us the great idea."

The restaurant appeals largely to area boaters but Goodspeed said bicyclists have also shown an interest in the restaurant.

"It looks big," Goodspeed added. "It looks bright. It looks clean. It looks brand new. You'll have a great view of the lake as you're sitting down."

Goodspeed said the site used to be a hot dog shack then it was expanded into the former Charlie's Boat Yard. The restaurant employs approximately 120 employees.

Charlie's Boat Yard will finish its expansion project this Friday. They also hope to stay open in the fall and early winter months.
