Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Longtime Channel 2 reporter Scott Brown has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 59.

Brown began his broadcast journalism career at WEBR radio, and then moved to Channel 2 for the first of two stints. In between, he worked for Erie County Executive Dennis Gorski.

Brown was a native of West Orange, NJ and graduated from SUNY Buffalo State with a degree in communications and political science.

He earned three national Murrow awards and several New York State Emmys for his work.

WBEN's Tom Puckett shared his own memory with Scott Brown when he was a ten year old in 1984. "Back in 1984, my dad, along with Joe Crangle and Chris Walsh to have me 'interview' Walter Mondale during the primary when he visited West Seneca. Scott was there covering and the next day he drops by Allendale Elementary to interview ME. He also left me a note I still have in my scrapbook hoping we'd work at the same station together. The closest I got to working with him was in 1997 when I was working at the former WNED radio and he was working for County Executive Dennis Gorski and I brought that memory up with him. It's a shame I didn't have the chance to show him the note he left me. By the way, if Channel 2 still has that video, I will be VERY impressed."
