Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The operating room at Buffalo's VA Hospital is closed temporarily after some findings raised concern.

The VA issued this statement:

During routine quality reviews of sterile processing, Buffalo VA Medical Center observed discoloration on white tray liners in some of the sterilization packages.  Although the indicators all reflected sterility of instruments, testing and maintenance is being done.

We found zero evidence of patient harm, and out of abundance of caution and to ensure patient safety, some surgical procedures are being rescheduled while we look into the situation.

Surgeries will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Veterans who need emergent surgical procedures are being referred to other facilities as clinically necessary.
