BUFFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Crews are out all over the city of buffalo working on fixing the potholes mother nature made this winter.

Buffalo Public Works Comissioner Steve Stepniak says the weather has to be just right to get the proper treatment

"When you try to put material down when the roadway is wet or puddling, it really doesn't hold much. That's more of a temporary basis," Stepniak said. "As we're doing on hertel the strip of asphalt that actually seperates because of the freeze thaw. You really have to ge that material down in there to get from water from coming up."

Stepniak says they've been out being proactive even in the winter trying to keep up with the potholes but this past winter did not make it easy.

"This has been one of the toughest seasons we've seen regionally and throughout the state," Stepniak said. "It's been a real tough year on potholes."

This year's paving program will kick off next week.
