BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - A $2.3 million multi-use sports complex is coming to fruition in downtown Buffalo.

"We've been trying to do something like this for ten years," Michael Damico, President of M/lesports (pronounced Milesports), said. "We tried different locations. Originally we were trying to get an industrial space and renovate it into a fieldhouse for the people in Buffalo to use. That didn't work out because zoning wasn't right and the buildings would cost to much to replicate so we decided to start from scratch."

The building will be located on the Elk and Lee Street.

Inside the complex, which Damico said can be finished by October if the weather cooperates, will be a soccer facility that can be used for training or smaller games. Other sports like kickball can also be played there.

Outdoors will have multiple functions for adult athletes.

"It's being built for soccer, lacrosse, (softball), and can also have touch football," he said.

Damico said that, with city approval, he'd like a concert venue that could seat between 7,000 and 10,000 people there, though South Buffalo Development, who owns the site, said in a statement to WBEN that the only new project under consideration is the proposed athletic complex and that future plans for development will be released by them.

Construction begins next month.
