BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) Buffalo Police say an officer fired a shot at a suspect during a hostage situation on McKinley Parkway on Friday afternoon.

Captain Jeff Rinaldo says a call was received for a suicidal man around 2:30 p.m. at 660 McKinley Parkway near Como. Buffalo SWAT and Crisis Management Team responded.

"A short time after that, the subject came out of the house with a woman," Rinaldo said. "The subject was carrying a shotgun."

During the struggle between the suspect and the woman, the gun went off. Rinaldo says police ordered several times to drop the gun, before shooting him.

Rinaldo says there were two shots fired inside the home and one outside the home. The man was taken to ECMC where he underwent surgery. In an update, Buffalo Police spokesperson Michael DeGeorge said that the suspect was out of surgery but in critical condition.

The woman and the officer, who wasn't injured, were also taken to the hospital.
