BUFFALO (WBEN) - The City of Buffalo is getting into the UB spirit.

Mayor Brown was joined by several members of the Bull Pen booster club on Friday to raise a Bulls flag in Niagara Square to support the men and the women.

Just before tip-off of the men's game at 4 p.m., Santora's was absolutely packed.

And people are excited for what both programs could become, and they were taking in the success of both teams.

"Right now, they're flourishing," said Jim Campagna, who's a Bulls superfan. "It's amazing. UB has come a long, long way from playing on Main St. until now on the national stage. Now we're going to take it one step at a time and make it to the top."

It was a tremendous atmosphere at Santora's, especially since the men climbed out to an early lead.

Johnny Bartko was intently watching the big screen at Santora's, and he says both programs' success on the court has been long overdue.

"The women's program has come a long way, and the men are just exceeding expectations every year now," said Bratko. "This brings the college aspect of success to Buffalo. We have the professional teams - the Bills, the Sabres, the Bisons - and now we have that college flare too...it's great."

He had nothing but good things to say about perhaps the most popular sports figure in Buffalo at the moment - men's Head Coach Nate Oats.

"He's young, smart, aggressive - I think he's doing a great job," he said. "

Campagna thinks the Bulls have a legitimate shot to make it to the Final Four.

"I think they can win the championship; I think we're heading for Minneapolis," said Campagna. "It would be so nice to get there. You never know."

If the men want to get to Minneapolis, they'll have to start on Sunday night at 6:10, as they play a second round matchup against Texas Tech. The women will be up against it too, as they play one of the great program in college sports history - the Connecticut Huskies - on Sunday at 7.
