Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Two fifth grade students at Eggert Road Elementary School in Orchard Park are behind project aimed at inclusion.

Ellery Jaworowicz and Reese Politowski came up with the idea for "buddy benches" for the school playground.  Any student who feels left out or alone could sit on the bench, and that would indicate to other students that someone needs a buddy.

Principal Terry Tryon agreed it was a great project, but tasked the girls with raising money first.

Reese and Ellery pitched it to local businesses in Orchard Park.  The response was favorable.  In addition to the girls' families, several Orchard Park businesses provided support.  Two benches were purchased and installed on Eggert Elementary's playground.

A ceremony was held Friday afternoon to educate students about the project.  Plaques are going to be affixed to the benches that read: "These benches are for students who need a buddy!  If you need a friend on the playground, sit on the bench and a buddy will come join you".
