BUFFALO (WBEN) - Tuesday marked the first day of the Broadway Market's newly instituted curbside pickup program, which was organized by the city as a way to circumvent the issues brought about by the coronavirus outbreak.

Customers are to call at least a day before their desired pickup date, and they'll receive a time slot in which they can pick up their goods. At that time, they will drive down Gibson Street, where they'll see a volunteer with a curbside pickup sign, and they'll give the name on the order. Next, they drive around to the Lombard Street side of the market where the products will be delivered to the vehicle.

Kathy Peterson is the manager of the Broadway Market, and she says there were about 20 pickup orders placed for Tuesday - a modest beginning. However, she is expecting the service to ramp up throughout the week, as the program's deadline is Saturday.

"We had a lot of calls today, and I expect it to pick up significantly as the week goes on," said Peterson.

For people who want to take advantage of this added service, they can call the market management office at 893-0705. As a reminder, there is no same day delivery - all orders need to be placed at least a day before.
