Orchard Park, NY (WBEN) - It didn't take long for the Bills to turn over the offense to their top draft pick.

Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott named Josh Allen the team's starting quarterback for this Sunday's game against the LA Chargers.

"It's the right move for our team," said Head Coach Sean McDermott while making the announcement Wednesday. "I'm not going to get in to how permanent it is... I've got confidence in Josh, I've got confidence in this football team, and it's the right move for our team."

Allen, the Bills' 2018 first round draft choice, threw for 74 yards in the second half of the team's week one defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. The rookie entered the game after the Bills fell behind 40-0 while being led by Nathan Peterman, who threw for 24 yards and two interceptions.

McDermott said that he appreciated Allen's 'command' of the offense during his appearance in the game in Baltimore.

"He's going to get valuable experience from being where he's going to be this weekend behind the steering wheel," McDermott said. "There's certainly valuable experience when you can stand and watch, but as we all know there's no substitute for the experience of getting behind the wheel."

Allen's first career start comes in the Bills' Home Opener Sunday against the Chargers at 1:00.
