BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – The Big Kahuna, Buffalo’s newest waterfront attraction, officially launched on Wednesday.

The tiki boat is a family-friendly and allows families to enjoy either a 60 or 90 minute experience along the Buffalo River, Buffalo Harbor, and Lake Erie.

It’s the latest project for Rich Hilliman, who also operates Buffalo River History Tours and the Spirit of Buffalo, both of which are docked at Canalside.

“Passengers will enjoy Caribbean-style music, island drinks, and we also have beer and wine on the relaxing trip on the Buffalo waterfront,” Hilliman said.

Three of their daily tours will be strictly meant for adults, though there will be one tour dedicated solely to families that will run from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“We are all about having fun and very excited about this but have to stay smart,” he said. “We will be practicing social distancing. Masks will be required for boarding and disembarking the vessel and any time you’re moving about the vessel, similar to a patio bar.”

Hand sanitizers will also be on the trips and Hilliman said they will sanitize the boat multiple times per day.

Under normal circumstances, the boat will fit about 50 people. Because of coronavirus, they had to cut their capacity in half and Hilliman said they’ll only limit tours to 20 at a time.
