BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Two different shootings in North Buffalo within a ten-day span have parts of the community on edge.

The first shooting at the North Buffalo Community Center from March 8 resulted in the death of an 18-year-old and injuries to two other teenaged boys. Another shooting occurred on Sunday just before 1:30 a.m. at The Foundry Suites. Two people were injured in the latter shooting, which Buffalo Police said was a targeted attack.

Among those with concerns is Buffalo Common Councilman Joe Golombek, whose district is represented by The Foundry Suites.

"I think that with increased security at the hotel we'll be able to nip that (violence) in the bud," Golombek told WBEN. "One incident is one too many as far as I'm concerned."

Golombek isn't sure whether this incident is an anomaly or if it's the start of a deadly trend in Buffalo.

To combat violence in the spring and summer months, Golombek said he works closely with block clubs.

"We try to get tips from my office directly to the police department," Golombek said while noting that some constituents reach out to him before going to police because of fears they could get in trouble. "We try to be a conduit of information between the police department and criminal activity in the neighborhood."

Golombek said that it's not the gangs that are the problems, but rather, wannabe gang members who don't have "rules".

"99 percent of the time when you see there's shootings and crime, it's gang members, drug dealers, on other gang and drug dealers," he said. "What's tragic about (this weekend) was that one of the young men that was shot was a bystander. But 30-to-50 people shouldn't be in a hotel room having a party either so the individuals need to take responsibility for it themselves, too."

So far there have been four homicides/murders in Buffalo this year.
