NYC's beloved Halloween Dog Parade un-canceled just in time

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City's annual Halloween Dog Parade that was cancelled earlier this year due to insurance reasons is now back in time for Halloween.

New York City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera said Wednesday that the parade will be held Oct. 28 in East River Park. The Wall Street Journal reports the event was resurrected with help from civic group Good Old Lower East Side, which will fund insurance, and ESPN, which donated $10,000 to the City Parks Foundation.

The parade, featuring dogs dressed to their best in Halloween attire, began 28 years ago to raise money for the Tompkins Square Park dog run. The parade was cancelled in August due to a larger insurance and liability policy required by the city Parks Department.

ESPN presenter Katie Nolan will host the event.
