The Town Board in Amherst may look at acquiring the former Westwood Country Club after they voted to pass a resolution that allows for the town to hire attorneys who will look at acquiring the club through eminent domain.

The club, which sits on the corner of Sheridan and North Forest, is currently under the control of Mensch Capital Partners, which is considering a plan for a $250 Million mixed use development.

The town board  voted to hire an attorney to review matters related to Westwood" which include eminent domain, condemnation and land redevelopment."

"Quite honestly we're astonished,"  sAndrew Shaevel, Westwood Managing Partner Andrew Shaevel told Channel 7, adding that  he was blindsided by the board's move.

"the fact that this is coming up at the 11th hour, is a big surprise and highly inapporpriate," Shaevel said.

The town meanwhile has not indicated there's a hard deadline as to when they will make the purchase.
