5 UB Students injured accident with Amherst Police car

Officer was responding to call at time of crash

Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - Amherst Police are invedtigating a late Friday accident that involved a police vehicle and another car on Sheridan near Sweet Home.  An Amherst officer was respoding to a call at the time of the crash.

The police vehicle collided with a 2012 Chevrolet, driven by a 20 year old female from Centereach, New York, who was taken to the Erie County Medical Center and is listed in stable condition with a head injury.

There were four additional passengers in the car, all of which were taken by ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center. Two passengers were listed in stable condition and two passengers are in critical condition.

The officer was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The Eggertsville Hose Company and Twin City Ambulance assisted at the accident scene.

The accident is currently under investigation and the identification of those involved are being withheld pending proper notifications to family.

No additional information is available at this time, however investigators will be canvassing for video and witnesses and are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash-camera footage of the area or incident, to contact the Amherst Police Department at 689-1311.
