Buffalo, N.Y. WBEN - A late night shooting seriously injured a 4 year old girl in Buffalo.

Buffalo Police say the young girl was grazed by a bullet Thursday night.  It happened in the 300 block of Lasalle Avenue near Comstock in the University district.

The 4 year old was in a car which was in a driveway when it happened.

She was driven immediately to Sisters Hospital in a civilian vehicle. She has since been taken to Oishei Children's Hospital where she is in serious condition.

Police say the child was not the target of the shooting.

Buffalo Mayork Byron Brown tells WBEN, "one shooting is too many" and says this is a tragic crime that the police are investigating with "a lot of emotion, a lot of passion".  Saying the number of fatal shootings is going down in the city, Mayor Brown says efforts to increase and improve community policing relationships is a contributing factor.

Anyone with information is asked to call or text the police department's confidential tip line at 716-847-2255.
