BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - State Senator Chris Jacobs on Friday announced a $1.5 million grant from the state for the Explore & More Children's Museum, the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park, and the Buffalo Heritage Carousel, all located on Buffalo's waterfront.

Each organization received $500,000 apiece.

"These three projects we're talking about here...will again take this area to a new level and generate even more visitors to come to Canalside and Western New York," Jacobs said.

The children's museum held its groundbreaking in March and is expected to open next year.

"This donation is going to help us fulfill our capital campaign of $28 million," Explore & More Children's Museum CEO Douglas Love said. "We'll build Explore & More's program of spaces, our lobby, our guest services, our visitor amenities, our exhibit and retail spaces, and we'll feature a fantastic cafe."

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Heritage Carousel will use it to restore the carousel and the design and construction of its building and the Naval Park plans to use the grant to support the construction of a "Hall of Honor", which will highlight the heroic actions by all Western New York veterans.

"What we're announcing here today is not just for Buffalo and Buffalo's waterfront," Jacobs said. "This is a regional attraction and a regional economic catalyst. We get over a million people a year who are coming down here. They don't just come here, they experience other places and enjoy our area and spend money in our area."
